The Committee of Tyne Rowing Club has been made aware that a member of the Club made allegations by email about an officer of Tyne United Rowing Club. These allegations were to the effect that an improper approach was made to a rowing member of Tyne, asking him to join and row for Tyne United. These allegations were then given wider currency through exchanges on internet sites. The Committee of Tyne Rowing Club wishes to clarify that these allegations were made personally by the Tyne member without the advance knowledge or agreement in any way of the Club Committee as a whole or of its officers individually.
The Chairman of Tyne, Dr Ian Wagstaff, has personally investigated the matter and is satisfied that the allegations were ill founded. Accordingly the Club has asked the member to write or email and withdraw the allegations and has itself officially apologised to Tyne United for the way in which the Tyne member raised the matter. All Tyne members have been reminded to act with courtesy on and off the water, to consider carefully the use of emails and the internet and to raise matters of significant concern with the Committee, not to act on their own.
