The president of Tyne Rowing Club, Nigel Sprague has announced that he is to stand down from the post. Nigel started rowing in 1940 at Durham School before studying medicine at Durham University and becoming a member of what is now NUBC.
When he joined Tyne Rowing Club changing facilities consisted of an old tram car parked near the clubhouse in Scotswood and Nigel, like many members at the time, helped build the current boat house by digging the foundations.
Nigel rowed for many years, competing in local regattas and national events such as the HoRR. Although no longer a rower, Nigel is still interested in the club, his advice and support in relation to the development plans of the new clubhouse were greatly appreciated.
It is hoped that he continues to visit us on a regular basis, particularly when the new building is completed.
