May Bank Holiday Monday saw the Ladies’ 1st VIII and a IV continue their preparation for Womens’ Henley Regatta in June. Boats populated with rowers from the wider club raced the ladies over 1500m to give them some practise at racing side by side.
It was obvious from the first piece that the ladies had the advantage. Having come 44th in the Womens’ Head on the Thames meant that they already have a decent pedigree. Subsequent pieces took place with time advantages to the other crews.
In fairness, a number of Masters were taking place. If the time handicap for age was added to the races, it may have been interesting to see who really won. In truth, any Masters’ crews would have been kidding themselves, as the ladies were clearly the better crew!
The weather was very kind allowing a pasta meal to be enjoyed by all afterwards, in the sunshine, on the clubhouse balcony.
If Carlsberg did Bank Holidays….
