Racing for the club

Introduction

This page sets out the procedures for getting into a race crew (and hopefully then winning), including paying for entry fees and trailerage and ensuring you are a British Rowing member. Let the Entries Secretary (currently Steve Barrett) know if anything is not clear -
entries@tynerowingclub.org .

You can see a list of most of the rowing events in the region or of interest to us up to March 2015 on the North East Rowing on-line website at www.nerowing.com/calendar.html . Or the British Rowing interactive calendar is at www.britishrowing.org/competing/calendar
 .

Race fees account

Please note this system is changing as at 31 Augsut 2014. We will post details of the new system as soon as we can, but it will be based around each squad doing its own entries including payments.

Each active rower has a virtual account with the club for race fees. The current balance is the difference between money they have deposited in advance less any sums for race fees or trailerage so far paid. The money is actually safe in the club main account. We take money out of your race fee account as soon as an entry request is made, so you must have money in there up front (no money, no entry).  The club charges £5 per person per event  for trailerage within the region.

Once you have been given your Unique Personal Reference (notification in hand), you can check your current balance
www.tynerowingclub.org/pages/race_fees_204438.cfm . Squad coordinators have access to the full spreadsheet and will credit you with money deposited with the club account as long as you tell them it has been done - they do not get automatic notification from the Treasurer.  They can also check back to previous event details if you have a query (and can update your credit when you tell them you have paid money to the club). For those with access, it is at https://docs.google.com/a/tynerowingclub.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjohttYLEr5NdFFoVnJWXzB5WktSeks5ckMtTlZKcEE#gid=1 .

Putting in an entry - Tyne RC internal online system

This section will also be changing as at 31 August 2014.

British Rowing run an online event entry system called (in short) BROE. Squad coordinators and some club coaches and officers can put in entries. Normally your coordinator or coach will discuss with you whch races you will be entering, so you don't have to do any more on this front. But if you are an individual wanting to do a single scull, for example, then you must contact your coordinator yourself and ask him or her to do your entry (and your race debit as well).

When they know what entries are likely for a particular event, squad coordinators or coaches must fill in a boat & blade request to the club via a club Google online system using a form at at

https://docs.google.com/a/tynerowingclub.org/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDc2Q0dVQ09ZSWtVMUM1Ymx2OURyYmc6MA .  This is accessbible to anybody, but usually coordinators will fill it in.

You will need to enter:
- regatta or head race name (e.g. Durham Small Boats Head), chosen from drop-down menu *
- race type (e.g Novice Women's 4x-)
- division (if applicabale)
- day (only applicable to multi-day events)
- boat requested (preferablt by name e.g. 'Renforth')
- blades requested (try to say preferred ones if you can, say not know if ...... not known)
- if you need trailer space (must be yes or no; if uncertain, say yes and put in a comment in box lower down)
- name of stroke (as this is what pops up on BROE after an entry, e.g TYN-Smith)
- comments (up to you, as necessary)
- contact email and phone number (and name if not clear from email address).
- press submit!

* If the event you want to enter is not shown, email
entries@tynerowingclub.org and ask for it to be put on.

This uploads to a background spreadsheet at
https://docs.google.com/a/tynerowingclub.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjohttYLEr5NdDc2Q0dVQ09ZSWtVMUM1Ymx2OURyYmc  from which the Vice Captain (Boats) - Dave Higgins
- picks up details. He will then assess all boat and blade requests and negoatiate any clashes. Squad coodinators have read-only access to this spreadsheet. Requests must be made by 11.59pm on the Monday a week and a two-thirds before the event.  Dave will resign (with justification) if you don't cooperate with him!

British Rowing Online Entry (BROE) system

As stated above, your coordinator and some coaches and officers have authorisation to make entries on behalf of the club into formal events (inlcuding those run by our own club). You can read more about BROE at
www.britishrowing.org/competing/online-entry .   The only significant exception locally is for the Sunday League series for novice rowers, entries for which are just done by email. And Henley Royal Regatta is very traditional and is all done by post!

BROE is very efficient but also very unforgiving - it will only allow crews to be entered if all named people are current BR members and with Tyne as a named club. We will try to remind you if your BR subs are due, but it is up to you, really. You will get reminded from BR as well. You can do it all online. Queries about BR (and indeed Tyne RC) membership can be made to the
Secretary
, Jerry Barker.
