Visit by Chester-le-Street ARC

Sunday, 15 August 2010
On Sunday 16 August the club hosted a visit by Chester-le-Street ARC, with about 20 juniors, 4 seniors and lots of supporters.
Mixed crew in TRC boat
The seniors went for a paddle on their own, The Chester juniors were joined by a dozen of ours to make a round 32, which we split into 8 teams and then into two groups. Each team in a group raced the others (thus three races each) over about 400m in coxed quads.

Teams were A (Callum, Andy, Louise, Laura), B (Otis, Emma, Charlotte, Mina), C (Dan, Rachel/Robbie, Freya, Alex), D (Haakon, Ellie, Holly, Chloe) E (Mattie, Seb, Megan, Joanne), F (Ollie, Marcus, Danielle, Emma), G (Ben, Ollie, Nick, Lucy), H (Robbie, Holly, Emma, Louise).

Results from some closely won heats were by team (in wins) A 0, B 1, C 2, D 3 and E 2, F 0, G 3, H 1. The final was therefore between Team D and Team G.

The falling tide ruled out a final on the water, so it was done on ergos. A relay was run over 2000m. Team G, perhaps favourites on paper, chose to do it in straight, single 400m stretches. Team D chose to race in 200m pieces, twice each. This tactic was sensible, as they beat Team G by 40m!

We also ran some short races for older members and adults in Edon training boats - 100m frontwards and 100m backing down. No results passed to me as yet!

A barbecue was put on and seemed to go down well. Thanks to the cooks and servers.

All in all a good day (thanks in part to the clement weather) and we look forward to repeating an event of this sort either here at home or at other clubs.
A rare quiet moment
