Ponteland Junior Head - Sat 18 March 2023
Background to the competition

This event was originally run by Ponteland High School Rowing Club, hence the name, but has now been taken under the wing of Tyne ARC. It happens each year in mid to late March, with the exact date depending on tides.

Because of the tides we tend to be on the same day as a big race on the Thames,
usually the Head of the River Race (HoRR), as was the case in 2023 and now in 2024. It tends to be a northern region affair, though in both 2022 and 2023 we had St Peter's School BC up from York. It can act as a reserve event for JIRR trial run-offs for this region.

Report on 2023

We had sun, calm, wind, waves, dry patches, torrential rain (for a short time). No snow, though, as it remained relatively warm all day. The Victor Ludorum winner was confirmed as Hexham Rowing Club. They will hold the Rose Bowl trophy for a year and received a pennant. The winner of the Best Club on Average pennant was also Hexham RC, showing what a good all round effort they put in. The top three in each category is given below.

VL points were awarded as follows:
4+ crew event - 3 for a win, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd
