The Club is located on one of the country's best stretches of river for rowing. We can row 4 km westwards in very scenic surrounds towards Wylam (at high tide) or crews can set off east towards the centre of the City and beyond - with Tynemouth as the ultimate and occasional goal, 25 km away. Scotswood at about 5 km is our more usual target.
The Club has its premises on the north side of the Tyne at Newburn in the far west of Newcastle upon Tyne and we host Northumbria Univerity Boat Club there. Our clubhouse (incorporating our 'old' boathouse) was built in the 1950s when we relocated from near Scotswood Bridge. The 'new' boathouse is for boat storage only and was built in the 1990s.
In early 2009 the Club added a new set of steps, so that we now have two broad sets suitable for eights and a narrower set usually used for launches. We can boat straight in to the water from the steps without crossing mud or rocks at all but the the very lowest tides.
The Club has an extensive fleet of its own boats from single sculls to eights and we rack quite a number of private boats, mainly singles. The boats range from international standard shells suitable for top level racing to training and recreational boats for beginners. We house about 90 boats in all at the moment, plus two launches, three trailers and too many odds and ends to mention.
We have a growing number of Concept 2 ergos for indoor training and a small weights room. The clubhouse has two mult-purpose rooms, a bar opening in to each room as necessary, a kitchen, changing rooms and a very small office/cupboard. There are hot showers and central heating.
