Tyne Regatta - Saturday 29 June 2019
2019 regatta cancelled

The 2019 competition on 29 June was cancelled early on 20 June as there had been little if any direct interest and no entries. Back to the drawing board yet again!

The following text has not been updated to take account of the cancellation and is being kept for the time being as archive

New format for 2019

After some hesitations in the last couple of years, we have new ideas for 2019, as we describe here. We hope to combine a bit of fun with some fairly serious racing, but maybe in unfamiliar combinations for some.

Poster out and BROE open now

The poster is downloadable below, but here is an extract from the front page. As you can see we are trialling a new format aimed at giving a good days rowing with the aim of two races minimum for everybody and all in a slightly less pressured atmosphere that at the larger competitions.

All entries will be through BROE (read page 2 of the poster for details, e.g. for Masters crews). BROE opened on Wed 29 May and will close at 6.00pm on 22 June, with race fees payable by 6.00pm on 23 June. The draw will be made on the evening of 24 June 2019.

Events on offer

We are running a fun day of racing in limited classes of boats and exclusively in mixed crews, all leading directly to the grand finale of Club eights. As far as we can do it, each event will be ‘stay-on-water’ knock-outs. We will also be running an ergo challenge, a BBQ and the bar will be open for non-rowers.
There will be races in the following mixed categories only. Anyone can enter the fours and quads, but only rowers who have competed in at least one other earlier fours or quads event can row in the Club eights, winner to be Northern Club Champions. Nominal charge for the eights. All entries on BROE
Mixed Senior 4+
Mixed Masters 4x- (MasC or older)
Mixed J18 4x-
Mixed J15 4x+
leading to
Club 8+
8+ crews must be mixed (50/50) with at least 2 juniors (J15-J18) and at least 2 in Masters age group C (43+) or older. All must have raced in an earlier event.
